Minecraft: see through ground glitch?

i was playing minecraft, and my server or something glitched up. now all i see is lava and tunnels underground. when i went on my world i was lke 3 blocks under the surface and couldnt get up. also there was snow on my world? i made my base in a non snowy biome level. does anyone have this problem? if so do you know how to fix it?
