Can I do this in Sims 3?

If you get your child taken away is there anyway to get them back? My game glitched out the other day & it wouldn't let me quit what i was going to feed them so cps came & took them. I wanted to know if i can get him back because a wish came up for my sim saying she wanted to throw a birthday party for him. help?
